Be the expert

If you’re the leader, be the expert.

Too many times, I hear leaders bemoaning a lack of knowledge, a lack of skill, and a lack of certainty. Living in and operating out of the weaknesses and insecurities, not out of the grace, strength, and knowledge God has blessed them with. They rest in the expertise of others instead of growing in to the expertise that’s needed of them.

God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called.

But not if you resist the equipping.

Leaders:

  • Quit it with the insecurities.
  • Quit it with the ‘I don’t know what I’m doing.’
  • Quit it with the focus on your weaknesses.
  • Quit it with the, “I’m just not sure…”
  • Quit it with the shirking of vision to others.

Time to own up to your title. Time to grow in to your shoes.

This is not about acting like a pompous know-it-all.

It’s all about being the expert that those you lead expect you to be. Your calling is too important to sit on the sidelines.

Accept your gifts.

Let your passions drive you.

Learn. Experiment. Take risks. Fail.

Repeat.

If you’re the leader, be the expert.

nice thoughts, reminds me of God speaking to Jeremiah ”
But the LORD said to me: “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ For you shall go to all to whom I send you, And whatever I command you, you shall speak.”

I like that reference, Tyler. Good stuff.

Where is the line between pride and confidence? how do I know I am being confident but not arrogant?

    • http://www.benreed.net Ben Reed

      Hey Josh,

      That’s a great question. A great one.

I think that it’s a fine line. And it’s easy to slide from confidence into pride. Super easy.

I also think that confidence can be mistaken for pride. Being confident in what God’s called you to do could be seen as a form of pride.

I’ve got some thoughts on this. In fact, I’m going to make it a separate blog post. In the meantime, do you see a difference?

it is an interesting thing to ponder. I can’t help but think God wants us totally confident and totally humble. It must be possible to be both.

Great reminder. Being an expert requires taking ownership of our skills and position.
